Respectfully disagree, Larry. My Experience and perspective, (admittedly also anecdotal), comes from sharing a barracks with hundreds of GIs, many of which were minorities. We ALL had access to tuition assistance and G.I. Bill. I used that opportunity to get a college education and ratings. For whatever reason(s) Others did not. I didn’t question their choices, to each their own, however skin color did not stop them from doing what I did.
Year after year, the military fails to meet its recruiting quota so it’s not like those opportunities are not available. thousands of minorities separate from the military with education benefits every year. There are also many other opportunities and scholarships available to minorities that are not available to others.
if we are to come together as a country and compete with the lakes of China, we need to end this philosophy of victimhood. Hands-down, some of the most talented and gifted people I have known in my career were minorities and females. They are fully capable and equipped to compete on an equal playing field as their white male counterparts. We just need to stop convincing them otherwise with these ridiculous programs and handouts.
