Clearly we have not, nor will we ever, establish dominion over Mother Nature. I think we should know this. But we can improve our odds through science. Airplanes fly because of science. I flew with a guy about a year ago who raged for three days about everything he could think of. Old man shouting at clouds was never more clear than with this guy. He raged at the space program and that's when I finally had to tell him that without the space program we don't have GPS and we're not going to have time to rage about it because we'd be going from one NDB to the next. He accepted the truth in this.
The posts above about vaccines being among the most important things in human history isn't exaggeration or hyperbole. They're also not new. We've been learning about vaccines from hundreds of years. Without them we'd be living with Polio and Tetanus and Smallpox and other gruesome things we have been able to get under control. The difference here is the speed with which this was developed. It was very fast and with federal support because the threat to our way of life, everywhere on the planet, is at high risk if we don't control this pandemic. Maybe it burns itself out eventually and that would be great if the virus evolves into a more benign thing and becomes endemic and relatively harmless. But we know it can be a bad, bad thing to contact COVID-19.
I am six days out from my second shot. I got them through Walgreens and the process was relatively easy and the side effects minimal. I would encourage skeptics to read more into the science of this and consider getting it. I wish to avoid the political angle but even the former president, who was a vocal provocateur WRT the pandemic, has received the vaccine and has recommended it.
