Work is a means to an end. Unless you're the guy at the top, you're exchanging your labor so somebody else can generate real wealth while they pay you as little as they possibly can. I'll continue to do as little as possible to earn as much as possible, and I won't miss this job one bit when I get medically grounded for some ailment or age. Don't get me wrong, this profession is far better than most but we're still just a line item expense on some bean counter's balance sheet.
Get a hobby you enjoy and can do past 65 and you'll be yearning for that day you no longer have to punch the clock instead of ruing it.
I also subscribe to the "work smarter, not harder" school of thought. The problem with me, though, is I get bored very easily when I'm home and not working. Having no friends makes it harder to get out and socialize. Right now, my only two interests are airplanes and money/investing. I'm trying to branch out a bit.
