I was wondering the same thing. The CPOs can help/crush individual pilots as required, but they certainly have no influence on company policy. Seems like a waste of their time and ours to be complaining about this issue.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the content and tone of JA's letter, just that one sentence had me scratching my head.
And that's the point. Consume their time and effort. It's a pushback against the one way flow of power and information. It sets a tone. And will pay dividends in future interactions like summer fatigue and sick calls or any other thing that hampers productivity which pilots are routinely blamed for. They need to know the "extra mile" we go has been reduced to about an inch and a half. Keep your backpacks on, while we add weight and go through the muddy field instead of the hardpan. This is about sending a signal on morale.
