One thing to note, is RJ's operating at mainline gives the company access to the GTF long range RJ's, i.e. ERJE2, MRJ, etc. That revenue premium alone would cover any cost difference in pilot salaries.
They are certainly more efficient but that would be offset by just purchase costs alone. The current 76 seat fleet has a lot of time to go before requiring replacements. I can assure you that they would never buy the 175 size anyway. They would purchase the 100 seat version and Delta has already selected the aircraft to fill that slot.
