They seem to frozen like a deer in the headlights. Everyone else is planning on being back to 2019 before the end of this year while Alaska is curled up in the fetal position. The most aggressive thing they’ve done is announce STS-BUR in response to avelo and they tried to play it off like they had been planning that route for awhile. Hell, in this weeks pilot call the chief pilot couldn’t even make eye contact with the camera and lie to us about upgrades. All he could do is listlessly mumble about defending Seattle from Delta because there is no plan other than flying 160+ seat aircraft to BZN and GEG.
The biggest play they have is to capitalize on our weak pilot group, and lack of scope language. They’re growing the 175 fleet (with 89,000 lb gross weight aircraft ) by close to 20% while at the same time shrinking the mainline fleet and the pilot group and MEC just shrug because it’s only SFO that getting hit and that’s good for SEA and PDX.
