If (anecdotally) you and all your family survive COVID with no long term effects, but 1 in 100 have permanent lung scaring (meaning you’d rarely meet someone personally who was in this situation) your experience would very much track with what scientists are saying, and yet, there would still be a significant threat from COVID to alter a person’s life. Just because you haven’t seen it personally doesn’t mean it’s not happening. That is a beautiful part of our modern day technology. Reviewing big Data is one way aviation has become so safe. It’s hard to take individual occurrences and assign accurate risk, but aggregate years of data from many airlines and it starts to paint a picture.
