I sat reserve 2008-2010 in LAX as UAL’s most Jr. 320 Capt. SNA isn’t the end of the world but ONT or BUR are a friggin hike and a pricy one from the LAX area. I remember dropping $100+ one morning on a 0200 short call for a 0600 go. The only option that time of the morning was a taxi. I was sitting in an LAX hotel when the call came in.

Super Shuttle was your savior back then. It was like $35.00 for a LAX to SNA but they only ran certain hours. Now days Uber/Lyft would make all of the LAX airports much easier.
