Just my gut feeling, but I would bet that it's to try and fill up the NYC ER as there is a mass exodus at the bottom of the list every AE. Did you look at the reserve numbers for March? February was OK but now they are back to hurting again next month, and that's with 1500 hours of flying shifting to ATL.
I think that they are going to stuff it full and not put out another bid for a good whille, or if they do it will have vacancies on it that junior guys can't hold. This way the bottom can't bail out and there won't be a repeat of last summer.
Course, with the new destinations and the increase in frequecy to several destinations just announced, we may end up back there anyway.
C'mon green slip gravy train!
