i mean the 787 was doing just that for the companies that actually bought them. Look at all the destinations UA has opened out of SFO on the 787. CTU, DEL, TLV, PPT, and SIN are just a few that come to mind on top of their other routes across their network. AA was also looking at LAX-CHC and DFW- AKL as well as a few others. 787 turned out to be that long and thin plane, but our airline was not interested.

220 can do JFK -LCY just as well as the A318.(the a318s doing it pre Covid were In a all FC config. ~40ish pax) Probably going to have to stop in SNN for gas coming back but that was what the current aircraft does and while the plane refuses the pax go through pre clearance so they don’t have to clear customs in NYC. Win/win
