Our MX seems extremely solid to me. Like others have echoed I hardly ever have an aircraft with MEL's and when they do they're normally NEF's or something of that nature. MX is always responsive and professional and courteous anytime we do need to write something up. I've never got any vibe that there was any "pencil whipping" for a return to service. Keep in mind some airlines like WN have had huge amount of their fleet grounded and AS literally killed people on an MD80 for poor MX... Long story short, none of that has happened here at NK and I've felt confident in every aircraft I fly here.
