I'm big on tipping when one is expected to tip. But I can relate to this. Just about the only reason for me to carry cash anymore is to tip van drivers.

Me and my wife recently went to an Aldi's for the first time. They wanted a quarter to use the shopping cart. As in an actual quarter, for those who are unfamiliar, to put in the cart to release it to be used. I was dumbfounded. I told my wife, "let's look around but I already know I'm not going to be a regular here". Her reply was "oh come on, we can afford the quarter". And I said, "that's not the point, I don't carry change!" We found out later you get the quarter back when you're done. Still doesn't solve the issue of not having the quarter on me to begin with.
I can just shop somewhere else. No big deal. But I can't avoid using the hotel van service (unless I want to spend WAY more money) so I carry some singles when I go on a trip. I probably would tip a premium to someone that made it so I didn't have to carry the singles though.
