The NYC 765 2-day domestics were in the bid packet in the winter of 2016-17 and were commutable on one end. That was when cracks started to show in the “Juniority”.
The 2-days went away the summer of 2017, but returned ‘permanently’ (I.e. year-round) in the fall of 2017. Except now they were uncommutable on both ends. I knew more than a few pilots who bailed on the category solely because it. That’s when when the juniority dam broke open, and has never looked back. It has continued to amaze me how Junior it always goes.
I left the category in 2018, so can’t say for sure what happened to ‘the domestics’ after that, but it has continued to go super Junior to every other WB, and stay that way. I was the plug for 6 months, and yet would be at ~40% after the last AE. That’s insane.
A cynical pilot may notice that when the fleet started being reduced by 15% for a "interior refresh" program and the company said they were going to reduce the NYC headcount while keeping ATL steady during the refresh, noncommutable lines started occurring in NYC to "encourage" pilots to leave vice arrive thus abating any needs for short term displacements.
Now that all have been refreshed, it seems that they are releveling the bases (765) and NYC is back to a more traditional structure.
I know that's a cynical stake and the company would never operate with such a strategy on purpose, it just happened to work out perfectly.
