Just my .02 but the issue isn’t really the vaccine.

The issue is trust in our leadership and institutions. (Government, media, large employers) In order to gain/retain power and profit, all of these institutions have systematically tended to “pick a side” , sell themselves as the moral superior to the opposition content in the knowledge that if you can capture “brand loyalty” , especially brand loyalty by appealing to the psychological idea that by “buying this”, “voting for that”, “reading or watching this vs that” or being part of a certain group that makes you at a minimum intellectually superior and at a maximum morally superior to a fellow citizen who disagrees.

The “right” has done it. (The Moral Majority political machine in the 80’s and early 90’s) and the left has done it and in so doing they (the political, cultural, educational, business) leadership institutions have thoroughly siloed the citizens into basically two tribes. There is no room for ambiguity. There is no room for nuance. There is no quarter given for questioning of narrative or dissent.

Because of this, in general, our citizenry now has a tendency to only trust and believe in their tribal leadership, and they tend to do so unwaveringly so even if their are valid counter arguments to at least be considered. The easiest way to shut down the debate/discussion of the counter arguments is to declare everything an emergency and use your authority to narrow who gets to decide “policy”. Trump doesn’t get funding for the boarder …. Fine…. Emergency authority to pull funds approved by Congress for one thing to use for another. DeBlazio didn’t get the vaccine results he wanted voluntarily…fine we’ll shut down your access to commerce. YouTube doesn’t think a discussion of Ivermectin…. we’ll remove you from the platform. United doesn’t get the voluntary support for vaccines so they can advertise that THEIR airline is safer than the rest… vaccine or termination.

And then, while wielding their authority, they will often undermine what thin shred of credibility they have by not adhering to their own rules of “morality”. Right wing “moralists” caught in torrid affairs. Left wing governors and mayors violating their own mask and distancing policies. Right wing constitutionalists supporting thoroughly unconstitutional policies.

There is virtually no leadership by example. There is no sacrifice for principle to be paid by leadership. There’s just, lying, manipulation and mandate.

So there is no trust… except for your tribe, and even that can be sketchy.

All that to say, at the end of the day… right or left…. don’t blame your fellow citizen. Put the blame where it belongs,…. On collectively, what is probably some of the worst “leadership” the US has had in its 250 yr existence. On at least THAT issue, we MIGHT be able to still find common ground.
