This goes for any worthwhile career field. I don't think it's as black and white as you are implying and I think there are more content family men/pilots than you think. Also, there are trade-offs in any worthwhile career field.
Every profession has trade offs but it seems to me that aviation has a higher level of complications and sacrifices over most other professions.
Most of the time it is very difficult to have a good family life and dream career. There are too many variables that are out of our control. Occasionally someone lucks out but at some point most of us will have to choose between career and family.
