China should be writing all the checks to the entire world for lost productivity and lost GDP. The entire bill for this mess should be paid by China, to include wrongful death suits. Reckless and dangerous and sloppy procedures in that damn Wuhan laboratory. if it wasn't intentional, then it was accidental. In any case, it's China's mess to clean up and pay for.
Not imperfect at all, just an imperfect understanding of how vaccines work.
Last years flu vaccine won't protect you 100% from this years flu strain. But it will likely offer some protection from getting this years strain, transmitting it, or getting really sick from it.
It's not really a "break through" infection, it's the Delta Variant. Arguably, if the population had been more proactive adopting an early vaccine strategy, we would have far less of an issue with a mutated strain. Now all we can do is to try to catch up, before this vaccine has lost all of it's ability to provide some level of protection. When that happens, drug manufacturers will have to create brand new vaccines that yet again are likely to need the full FDA treatment.
And keep in mind, this is a novel virus. Which means the mutations aren't predictable like the flu mutations. And even with the flu mutations, we sometime strike out (just like we did two flu seasons ago, when the effectiveness was down to about 40%). The fact that we could rally the industry to develop a viable vaccine, in such a short about of time, to be as effective as it was is quite the modern marvel.
