I think resigning while on an outstation overnight is poor form, but if you give them adequate notice to cover your absence with short-call reserve, I don’t see why that’s a problem.
Worst form I have seen, a friend told me about. A relatively new engineer left his badge in his desk drawer at the end of the week. He walked out the door, never showed up again. He never answered his phone nor email.
