They have a choice...they just don't like the consequences. We'll wait and see how this plays out, but I think you're underestimating the ease of collecting LTD. I don't know if you work for UAL (your screen name leads me to believe you do), but we ALL pay for pilots on LTD so we all have a dog in the fight.
. Edit. I pay for my LTD. So do you. It’s no different than any other insurance scheme.
Good luck. You may have a dog but you have no say. I’d say the consequences will be what WE don’t like since we’re all going to be paying for a bunch of our coworkers who take the LTD.
As long as they are legally covered per their doctor nothing can be done. Ask the company how firing 11 people who got divorces to collect pensions went for them?
