Dang just saw the email from PB. A few thoughts:

The uniform refresh marks a “multi-million dollar investment in our pilots”. And that the current uniform does not “meet the needs of a diverse pilot group”. Hear hear!! Let me just say that the double-breasted coat of antiquity which has been a hallmark of Delta for many decades reeks of privilege and patriarchy. As our country and industry recovers from the pandemic, focusing our efforts squarely on the inclusivity of our uniform is a testament to our leadership team. A few suggestions:

Epaulets have their origin in European battle rank. This vestige of colonialism needs to be eliminated. Also the entire question of “rank” needs to be rethought. Do air-people with 4 stripes constantly need to flaunt their superior position on the hierarchy of privilege? It’s time to re-center the narrative and make all uniforms equal, no matter the rank.

Neck ties of any kind denote gender as studies show most humans who wear ties self-identify as men. It’s time for a more gender neutral uniform, preferably in beige.

Once again, kudos to our leadership team for focusing our time and millions of our dollars on uniform diversity.
