No question quarantine is taken seriously in Australia

Every country is free to adopt their own approach & deal with the consequences

Australia 1000 Covid dead bodies Vs USA 700,000 dead bodies , each to their own

The amenity & enjoyment of flight crews on layovers isn't front of mind for Aust Govt & the same is done
to flight crew from Syd/Melb when they fly domestically around Australia - stay in Hotel room. So don't think you
are getting VIP treatment

Patient zero for Delta strain in Australia was flight crew from USA - North of 100 dead bodies now & many more to come
from that breach. 100 + dead bodies is taken seriously in Australia

Yes many in Australia think the Govts (Fed & State) have been over-cautious & over-zealous, otoh 4/6 Australian states & 1/2 Mainland territories have effectively remained Covid free.

Tale of two countries really Covid infected (Sydney/Melb) & Covid free , the other states & no travel between the two

Western Australia is effectively a third country & will not open to the rest of Australia until mid-next year

It is routine that State Govts deny Australians the right to travel to another state to visit terminally ill relatives/attend funerals & to jail people for breaching state borders . Real challenge for 40,000 plus Australians stranded overseas to get home

So you actually probably got treated quite nicely in comparison to how many many Australians have been treated by their various Governments
