Not sure how far you are referring. But yes, at one point the 777 was supposed to be a MD replacement. The plan was dedicated 777Fs to replace the International/Long Haul MDs. MD-10-10/-30 and Domestic MD-11s would be replaced by 777-200/-200ERs Passenger to Freighters Conversions. They ran into issues getting the P2F to be financially/engineering workable. They said it was unfeasible and stuck with buying dedicated Freighters.

Obviously with the P2Fs starting now they figured it out, but that the story as it was told 10-13 years ago when the 777 first came to us.
