I hope the MEC has done a better job than we did recruiting FO's into union positions. We had been stagnant for so long that the union had the benefit of volunteers with years and years of experience. That isn't the case now, and if they don't start getting FO's involved early, they'll lose all the institutional knowledge that had been accumulated with nobody functional to pass it to except a newbie.
They do a pretty good job if that. Unfortunately there are plenty with no experience, period. Someone who has literally done nothing besides flight instructing prior to being hired doesn’t bring much to the table.
