would they really turn off critical data that can only be used for flight safety purposes? I’m sure that would not look good to the FAA.

im sure some bean counter didn’t account for this cost, and now there is hell to pay. Good thing they can take it out of our 401k and promised bonuses
The platforms are different and therefore the cost structure is different. AA is using Viasat and Envoy is using cellular based data on GoGo. So I’m sure the way the data downloads is different. I’ve also never seen mainline watching movies on their flights but I did get to have that conversation with an f/o in February, so it wouldn’t surprise me if the ratio of people using it improperly to those using it properly is much higher than mainline.
