They have thousands of applicants so it’s kinda hard to say what would cause them to choose one qualified applicant and not another.
When I applied I had roughly 3,900TT, 800 TPIC (single engine), 121 and 135 experience, Special Qualification (Aspen) experience, and 2 type ratings. One failed checkride (instrument) from back in 2008 but other than that a squeaky clean record. I was neither under-qualified nor over-qualified. Most guys in my class were roughly in that same experience area.
Attaching LORs to your application can’t hurt you but like I mentioned previously they were pretty clear about not looking at them until Phase II. I even had to bring in copies of my LORs during my interview even though I had attached them to my application. They got put in a folder with the rest of my docs and that was the last I saw them. Never even mentioned during the interview.
Right now I just resubmit all my info on the profile and new resume/cover letter to my existing application. I have a former FO colleague in training there who said he would write a rec for me so I was thinking maybe that was what I needed but now idk.
My experience is AF veteran (didn’t fly. I did F16 engine maintenance) A&P license, part 107 license. 2800 hours of UAV/UAS experience in Afghanistan doing ISR missions. College graduate in aviation (magma cum laude) current regional CA. 3600tt and 715 TPIC all 121.
Busted my FO ATP oral as a new hire….I’ll admit I wasn’t prepared. The questions I got asked were very different than what the airline told us to study so I was caught off guard. Took it again 2 days later and it was fine. And 11 months ago as a downgraded FO I was pulled off a line check cause my medical was cut in half instead of folded. Got a new medical the next day. Seemed extreme but I pressed on.
