The fact that you “…always thought the company is responsible for first year pay” is sort of irrelevant because the company is of course RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL PAY for all pilots under the CBA. The union’s moral AND LEGAL responsibility is to negotiate the best terms possible in that CBA for ALL pilots.
