Why do we have to break down and list the taxes and internet fees charged on the scheduled non contract hotel room??? Fedex tagged me about 4 years ago for over $250 for a receipt on a two day scheduled hotel LAX layover that I forgot to submit it a receipt for. I tried to submit the receipt after the deadline by they said sorry. Taking the money out of my pay for a scheduled hotel I used during my trip is theft on their part, plain and simple.
Ever since then, I no longer go above and beyond unless it benefits me. I do what is required by the contract and not one bit above that. I start the APU the minute I'm too hot or too cold, I fly the flight plan altitude even if I'm significantly lighter. I don't ask for shortcuts unless it gets me into bed quicker. I don't single engine taxi except in rare circumstances. Stealing that $250 from me burned any good will I had. It's not the money, it's the principle. This is a great company but they could give two shiats about us and their emails and FCIF's thanking us for a job well done in the most trying times unfortunately rings hollow with me and a lot of other pilots. People need to remember this when it comes time to vote on some substandard contract offer from the company...
