I don’t think the 350 is falling short of its advertised range. In fact I think it’s exceeding the original promises. Most manufacturers quote range under optimum conditions. The reality is to have a reliable consistant operation you need to knock 20 yo 25% off the quoted range. 150 knot head winds can kill winter North Atlantic ranges. 5000 plus density altitudes in the summer there can have the same effect in Joberg. Add in nasty weather at your destination requiring a longer range alternate and it all goes to hell. That’s why I don’t view the A321 as that much of a Europe threat. The best it will do in winter ops is near Europe airports to Boston and JFK.
