Exactly, it can definitely depend on the city you’re working. In New York City, narrow body on a Friday or Saturday night- you’ll be getting a premium. You’ve just gotta be available and ready to answer the phone at a moment’s notice- and be willing to go wherever the customers need you, no questions asked. The wide bodies don’t seem to get as much last minute premium and their hours tend to be more predictable. They’re generally older and have been hustling for a long time, although they do still work some long nights.

Also don’t forget to factor in all the expenses which can quickly eat into your bottom line. Depending on the city you might need a place to rest your head for a few hours in between shifts of servicing customers. Flophouses or crashpads are usually pretty affordable places to stay, but can be busy at all hours of the day and night with the other hourly transient workers coming and going. Clothing- the customers expect you to look a certain way. You’ll be spending some money on your appearance: hair, shoes, jacket, etc. Medical- the boss is gonna want you to get evaluated once or twice a year- just to make sure you’re safe to be around the customers.
