After I got married in 1983 my wife heard quite a bit from the other Officer's wives on base. A few who lived in COS actually bragged how they picked out their future husband by watching the Academy Cadets and choosing who they wanted. They knew the most the cadets were top 1% and were likely to be very successful. Another case, when it became obvious my Wing Deputy Commander wasn't going past the rank of full Colonel his wife divorced him and got her old job back at the Pentagon. Baited her hook and threw it back in the senior officer lake.
And finally there was the TDY thing. My squadron rotated to RAF Mildenhall 2 months out of every 14. Lots of cheating going on, the British Girls would hang out at the O-Club and try to pickup aircrew. The aircrew had a VOQ room converted to a private bar, it opened after the O-Club closed. Things happened there that would make the Roman Emperor Caligula blush. Once a female tabloid reporter pretended to be a local girl and then wrote a scandalous article about what went on. The Squadron CO just about lost his job and the local USAF General wanted to send the squadron home early. We arrived after all this and our guys were read the riot act.
