as the above poster mentioned, the company lies in the bed the made without coming to an agreement as other airlines did.
BCP out of anger and frustration puts into writing what should have been said over the phone if they didn’t want it to get out. An already angry pilot group tired of managements backhanded treatment and poor working conditions becomes “unhinged” further.
these are problems that Alaska management has created for themselves
If they were intellectually honest their “value statement would read:
DO THE RIGHT THING (when it’s convenient for us)
Its accurate, and this situation is a perfect example. Maybe they were gaming the system. Zero way to prove that given, lockdowns, Omicron spike, airlines canceling purportedly due to Omicron. Etc. PLUS….just for context, the company will and does REGULARLY game the system and then just says the standard “grieve and fly”.
Plus, honestly, I’d be willing to bet that letter was vetted further up the COC. But when it comes to HR issues, flight Ops management regularly shoots from the hip and then tries to put the paste back in the tube. Anyone that takes one of those jobs absolutely knows they are selling their soul.
