Every drop is different, and every class is going to have a different mix of people from different parts of the country with different aims when it comes to their first aircraft assignment. In general, NYC goes junior, and in general, the lower paying aircraft go junior. The 220 and 717 are also junior (in addition to those being the 2 lowest paying fleets) because they are the most limited when it comes to base choices. Starting on the 320 or 737, even in NYC, you can move to basically any other base in the airline on your first bidding opportunity. Having said all that, someone here said recently that the 757 went quite junior in their particular class.
Also, it seems like since they delayed the expected January bid back to February or March that they are now widening the range of openings (just look at the drop for this next class) since they are both running out of unfilled NYC spots from the last AE and need bodies to fill other bases that originally would have been coming quickly from transfers out of NYC had a bid happened this week.
In the end all you can do is hope for the best, and when you get your particular drop bid what you want.
