Whaledriver is right. It's all about networking with those you are flying with now. If you're seen as someone who is fun to fly with, you'll get recommendations later on down the road. I'm not saying you should go out of your way to be a "social coordinator" but don't slam click either.

A lot of the senior guys at Fedex are there now because they couldn't get hired at the legacy carriers. I was furloughed from Delta and didn't go back. Now I are a genius? I don't think so... It's all about timing, and networking.

And of course, getting in your minimum hours. But those are just for starters. You'll be competing with guys who may have lots more time than you. But we have been known to hire some 20 somethings from the regionals, so once you've met the qualifications, get the apps in!
