You only get pay protection on the same AE if the junior pilot is converting FROM the same category to the new category. New hires are not converting from anything, thus no one one property from the last AE is converting from new hire status. Pay protection does not apply. It just sort of stinks, but at least those people will have some more junior guys beneath them whenever they do actually convert.
Also, junior people converting from TO the same category don't force the senior people to convert, it just forces the company to pay the senior pilot at their new rate eariler.
The category you are converting from isn't part of the determination for pay protection it is based on the TO category.
