The problem is that when you omit information so simple, it bring a lot of red flags. What else could this applicant be hiding?
It doesn’t matter who the person is. I hope he gets back in 6 months and nail it.
Likewise, if it's not on your resume, perhaps don't mention it. If the app doesn't ask about unpaid parking tickets, I'm not going to mention all of the unpaid parking tickets I have during the interview because I think they'll appreciate my self-flagellating honesty. If I had a job that I didn't list on my app, I'm not going to bring it up in the interview, because they'll do exactly what happened.
An interview is a performance; a dance between participants. I'm going to play my part, they're going to play theirs. Do the dance, play the game, and then go on and live your life. Don't add steps that aren't part of the routine.
Note: I am in NO WAY advocating lying, hiding important information, or being misleading in any way during the interview. Do not lie in the interview, or ever.
