I think the concept is same as IRS deductibility (before the recent changes). If your clothing is only useful for your job, you could deduct it. Pilots uniform, hard hat, bullet proof vest, steel toed shoes are. Suit coat, jeans, tennis shoes are not, because you can wear them elsewhere. Taking a shower, shaving, having a haircut are not, because you would do them for non-work related. Yes, there are some grey areas, but that is the basic philosophy.
Thanks...very reasonable explanation.Might not be worth the squeeze, but since you already have the FOM that mandates hair grooming standards, it might be logical to push for haircut reimbursement/stipend to complement the uniform cleaning. Already got the camels nose under the tent
