This former CAL guy fully embraced the new culture. I really don’t care about nicknames for airplanes or what we call various things, but everything is better now than it was before.
The training is night and day better
The compensation is better
The work rules and contract as a whole is better
Union support is better
The culture in the chief pilots office is better
Crew scheduling is much better about contract compliance, especially when things go south
The union leadership is no longer full of scabs
The training department isn’t mostly scabs
Better overall contract compliance
The half wing concept is unique to United and I think it’s a positive thing
It’s just a much better job. There are things about this place that I definitely don’t like, but this is so much better than what many of us have been through.
This….And on the flip side of the coin, Cal ran a better business and gave the passengers a better product than UAL did. So overall, I think we blended the best of both (legacy Ual pilot culture and legacy cal corporate model). Of course nothing is absolute, and there is lots of room for improvement, but it’s a good marriage overall, IMO.
