Cessna Columbus is in no way a unique design for a business jet. It is a good proposal as far as intercontinental business jets are concerned but it is in no way novel or unique. Its appeal stems from the competitive advantage Cessna has as a premier manufacturer in parts supply, pilot training, airframe service, and overall customer satisfaction. They know this and are banking on it. The Columbus design itself demonstrates nothing new besides perhaps higher engine efficiency. For Cessna it is a first attempt at a large business jet, will almost certainly be a success, and even has some early orders on file. What amazes me is that a delivery spot means a 6 year wait. I guess large companies tend to look far forward in their transportation needs.
