At one point, with less bases, it made a lot of sense. You could get a reserve from ORD on an airplane anywhere in the system in a matter of a few hours. Same (to a slightly less extent) with DEN. ORD covered needs East of the Mississippi and DEN covered stuff to the West. As we continued to open bases around the country, that versatility advantage that was maintained in ORD began to diminish. Eventually, having that many reserves sitting at a large, expensive airport no longer made as much sense. Now, in two more months, it will be part of the Frontier Airlines history book.
