Some guys use the 26, but you can't fit it in the overhead while deadheading. Most use the standard 22 and a flight kit bag. Some hardcore warriors carry a third bag or travel guitars and just deal with it. You may be forced to check bags occasionly in that case.
I am in the travel light camp. I hand wash my clothes and never have to worry about it. Merino wool and bamboo blended cotton are your friends...
Some guys use the washing machines at various hotels throughout the system.
I don't think you can buy a bag with your allotment. I would find a way to live out of a 22 if I were you.
