No way! It’s much more fun to do it the way Jetblue pilots love to do it. Buy a house you could only afford doing 4 VDAs a month. If you don’t get the VDA calls don’t worry you’ll just have to pick twice as many straight pay trips. I think the comfortable range is 140-160 hours credit a month.
Definitely not unique to JetBlue pilots. Most of America lives like this actually. Some by choice others by necessity. I don’t judge those who work 70 hours nor do I judge those who work 150 hours. I don’t pretend to know their personal situation. Maybe they have a sick kid or parent.
