They're not going to war over this. But Russia is already having morale problems with its soldiers, as they truly thought they wouldn't invade their "brethren" nation. This would be the equivalent of the United States invading Canada. It would be hugely demoralizing.
But experts are saying that this invasion is purely a NATO test. He's going to try to test Article 5 somewhere. The next few weeks are going to be critical to de-escalating thing without it spiraling into a major conflict.
