Odds are a 25 year old in HR (the average age in the HR department is way above that anyway) has a better sense of the culture and trends than a typical line pilot. We pilots have a very narrow window of what we deem as acceptable social norms. There's no problem with that, but just realize that the rest of the world doesn't share that mindset.
and if you read what I wrote, I was showing the difference between what United seems appropriate, and what the vast majority of pilots deem appropriate. This is an airline pilot’s forum, correct? Therefore it’s appropriate to draw the distinction. I have no doubt that the millennials in HR are more tuned into social media trends, and that’s not a compliment.
