one old time pilot told me before i even became an airline pilot to always carry two things in my flight kit: ear plugs and an umbrella. so i got a nice small black umbrella that takes up the same space as my flashlight, and i always wear earplugs. i used the umbrella many times as an fo. kept me fairly dry, depending on the wind, and i never had any problems.
