This guy can't even be bothered to button his shirt but is delusional enough to want to be the face of us. Humility, tact, and self awareness are goals for most of the people I respect in this job and yet these (not just that guy) self-appointed representatives have none of those traits.
I hate to see the guy getting bullied but he is also the one that put it out there. Deleting negative comments instead of addressing the criticism constructively is also a sign that there might be some narcissistic element at play.
I agree 100% with everything you said, but I don’t think he’s representing United or the pilots of United. It would be crazy for anyone to assume that 1 guy on social media = all pilots of United.
I think people nowadays are smart enough to figure out what’s cringe enough for them not to follow. I want to take a wild guess his IG is not catered to other airline pilots but instead for up and coming ones to get them excited about our profession.
I can totally see how other airline pilots see him in an awkward light but then again most Instagram influencers get similar flack, again from other airline pilots. He’s certainly not an official company spokesperson, and he does seem to spend a heck of a lot of his free time making and editing his videos, and maybe that is what he has as a hobby that fulfills him. I think we need to give the average person a little bit more credit and the fact that if somebody is cringe they can make their own decisions on who they will follow. He is clearly doing something right and people are following him.
I checked out his Instagram, and he’s very positive, it could be much worse. I think as time goes by and social media expands we will see much more of this, to the dismay of certain people in our profession and that’s understandable. The best thing to do is to not follow him if you don’t like him, but continuing to oust him in front of others in a negative light, I think, is not cool.
