It hasn't been in the past but that doesn't mean someone won't "press to test" with the FAA watching in future. Never underestimate the abilty of pilots to mess up a good deal.

Anecdotally, it can and has been interpreted that way in the past. Likely the company doesn't care where you come from if you're going to operate a trip. I'd say the bigger risk is the pilot positive space "commuting home" to a different vacation spot every week. I suspect that may draw some attention from the company, though I'm not sure of any actual language that prevents that.

All the stupid questions AA guys throw up as to why we cant have PS also.
IF positive space commuting gets encoded in permanent language in the contract, I suspect it would come with some stipulations such as "positive space only applies to/from a pilots base and an airport within 100 miles of their home of record".
