Oakland is uniquely challenging. Difficult to get to from most of the country. Little frequency. No red eye options (except for the freighters). Few crashpads. Expensive hotels where they recommend you not go outside.

I commuted there as a new hire and the only saving grace was the first month as a line holder I was able to give most of it away. Only ended up having to commute out there twice in the few months I was based there, and - granted it was a two leg commute - but it was not an experience I care to revisit.

Now if you live in California or, better yet within a couple hours driving distance… OAK seems like it would be a terrific base! The crews are friendly, the flying is great, and I imagine you would have artificial seniority for as long as the domicile remains in existence.
