Sorry but I just don’t see his termination sticking. Pilots have kept their jobs for far more serious matters (landing on taxiways, tail strikes, etc). Sure he should be punished somehow but to permanently sack him for this is over the top.
A NetJets Captain was fired for throwing out the "N-Word" during a road rage incident on his days off. The other vehicle recorded it and the video went viral. I don't know if the firing was grieved or not.
I'd argue that using that word on a day off is a less serious offense than what the Delta Captain did.
