Frontier is without a chair now if the JB deal goes through. They're gonna get with someone. If that deal happens then JB/AS is a no brainer.
The spoiler there has always been the management teams.. both want to survive and and actually run an airline (as opposed to make a quick buck in a fire sale). Plus stoopid emotional considerations like entrenched brand and airframe worship. One board or the other would probably have to throw it's managers kicking and screaming into meat grinder. Not sure how beholden the B6 board is to the management team.
Other than that, it makes perfect sense.

Less likely, but UA and DL could acquire AS or B6 and still be only a hair larger than AA.
