Reviving this thread as I am looking at GUM as a new hire.

I see the new vacancy bid that was released today has no GUM spots available. I've heard people say that if you want GUM then to ask for it on day one of BI. If there is no vacancy however, is it even possible for them to give a new hire GUM? Just trying to plan on if I should start looking at houses in one of the other bases if Guam is impossible at this point.
