As someone who flew in a foreign NATO Air Force, I can answer in the affirmative to all of that bro code fraternity bs. I can also say the hero-worship of the military in the United States is a uniquely weird cultural phenomenon. It’s similar to what you would see in the Soviet Union, except it self generates and people actually believe it’s not state propaganda.

It definitely surfaced around the time of the Gulf War for me (I was still in high school). Perhaps as a way to make things right for Vets after Viet Nam, or at least the way they were treated. Sometimes it can go too far, but for me it’s still something to be respected.
I respect all our service members, and also those who served alongside them as Allies.
